Rick Slaven co-founded Silverado Interests in 2008. He began his career in real estate in 1972 and spent 11 years with the Hines organization based in Houston, Texas. He worked with Morton H. Meyerson beginning in 1987 and successfully invested in multiple real estate product types producing a strong IRR and multiple on over 70 investments realized through the end of 2008. In 2004, Mr. Slaven was one of the founding partners of E2M and a member of its investment committee. For E2M’s Value Added Fund I, he helped raise and invest over $300 million in equity. E2M, additionally, completed a second and third fund that are fully invested. In total, the three E2M funds total approximately $500 million of invested capital. In 2008, Mr. Slaven co-founded Silverado Interests with his son, Dan Slaven, to focus on smaller, individual real estate transactions that were not competitive with E2M. Additionally, Mr. Slaven spent six years on the Investment Advisory Committee to the Board of Regents for the Texas Tech University Endowment. Finally, Mr. Slaven has been active in civic activities in the Dallas community serving on many boards such as the Dallas Arboretum, Texas Discovery Gardens at Fair Park, and Interfaith. Rick holds an MBA from Harvard University and an electrical engineering undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University.


Dan Slaven is a co-founding partner at Silverado.  Dan is responsible for implementing strategies to discover real estate opportunities and foster relationships with our operating partners, while creating returns that are highly satisfactory. Dan’s efforts have played a key role in closing over 125 transactions for Silverado. These transactions include assets in senior care, memory care, limited-service hotels, student housing, multi-family, self-storage and retail. Prior to starting Silverado, Dan spent the first nine years of his real estate career as vice president of what became known as MMB-Group. This was a joint venture between Morton H. Meyerson, Manhattan Construction, and Paul Berry. The company focused on vertical development of all commercial real estate product types, including retail, multi-family, medical office, and medical condos. With Dan’s prior roles and his current role at Silverado, he has a vast knowledge of every product type in real estate and can identify value-add projects to produce satisfactory returns. He holds an undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University.  Dan is a member of YPO and formerly sat on the board of advisors for Miniluxe, Cariloop, and Lone Star YPO.


Mark Westerburg joined Silverado in 2018 as CFO.  He has over 26 years of commercial real estate experience – investing, operations, asset management, capital raising, M&A advisory, lending and leasing.  Mr. Westerburg previously spent 6 years with Stratford Land, an investment manager for a series of partnerships and investment funds totaling nearly $1B with a concentration in the southern U.S.  In his most recent role as CFO, Mr. Westerburg was responsible for accounting, finance, audit, investor relations, tax and treasury functions.  He initially served as SVP of Finance, with oversight of financial planning, forecasting and budgeting processes for the funds and over 50 individual investments.  Prior to Stratford Land, Mr. Westerburg spent 2 years with the corporate strategy group at Dell, Inc. focused on various strategic initiatives led by the CEO and the Executive Leadership Team.  He also worked over 4 years in the real estate investment banking group at JMP Securities, actively involved in over $2B in public/private equity and debt issuance and $1B+ in domestic M&A.  Mr. Westerburg began his career with the middle-market and the institutional lending groups at KeyBank Real Estate in both San Francisco and Dallas.  He is an active member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, Advisory Council for the Real Estate Finance and Investment Center at the University of Texas at Austin, and he holds both a M.B.A and a B.A. degree from the University of Texas at Austin.


Jimmy Grisham is Chief Investment Officer at Silverado Interests and leads investor management and capital raising for Silverado real estate investments. Jimmy is a former shareholder in Foundry Commercial (formerly known as CNL Commercial Real Estate), where he recently served as a Managing Director and a Partner in the Development and Investment Group and served on the Operating Committee. He brings over 40 years of institutional investment, development, and property services experience throughout the United States. After receiving his BBA from the University of Mississippi and MBA from the University of Texas, Jimmy was a partner at Trammell Crow Company through the late 1990’s, where he led many national initiatives.  Since then, Jimmy has led a number of successful real estate service and development platforms, including Centex Commercial, P.O’B. Montgomery & Co., RM Crowe Company and Drexel Realty Partners in Dallas, Texas. Jimmy is a licensed real estate broker in Texas and Florida. Jimmy recently served on Highland Park Town Council (2nd Term), board member of the Advisory Council for the Real Estate Finance and Investment Center at the University of Texas, Salesmanship Club Member and Development Committee Member, and Board Member and Honorary Chairman of the Tartan Classic of the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Former board experiences include Dallas Country Club (2 Terms), Highland Park Presbyterian Church Deacon and Elder, Practice Ministries Founding Board Member, Park Cities Dad’s Club, Clayton Dabney Foundation Golf Board, and Center for Non-Profit Management.

 


Jamie Slagel joined Silverado in 2019 as the Director of Asset Management. She is responsible for overseeing the operations team as well as underwriting, asset management, and due diligence activities maximizing relationships and returns. Previously, Mrs. Slagel served at 2M Companies and Jim Lake Companies, where she focused on cradle-to-grave commercial redevelopment including grant funding, underwriting, equity funding, lender selection, civic relationship building, and construction project management as well as asset management of diverse real estate portfolios including LIHTC multi-family, industrial, office, retail, and residential properties. In particular, she has been part of successful pioneering Dallas projects such as International on Turtle Creek and Trinity Loft. In addition, Mrs. Slagel’s involvement in the community helps build value and relationships through organizations including Our Friend’s Place, Preservation Dallas, and University Park’s Centennial Master Plan. She holds designations and licenses across multiple disciplines including CCIM, LEED-AP, PE, PMP, and TX real estate broker. Mrs. Slagel holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Industrial Engineering/IMSE from North Carolina State University.

 


Charles Tusa consults with Silverado’s investors and creates long-term relationships between them and the firm’s operating and development partners. Charlie has 40 plus years of experience. Prior to Silverado, he managed his own real estate investment advisory firm. His business experience includes serving as regional human resource consulting principal at KPMG and serving as president of two major family offices, Rosewood Management Corporation and the Beck Family Office. His operational experience includes serving as Managing Director of the Crescent Joint Venture where he had oversight responsibility for the construction, leasing, and general management of the $250 million Crescent Property and serving as president of TUSA Office Solutions which grew from $25 million to $70 million in sales during his involvement. After graduating from college, Charlie served as a Special Agent of the FBI. Charlie has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Dallas and is a member of the Salesmanship Club and has served as Chairman of the Security Committee for the AT&T Byron Nelson Golf Classic. He holds a BBA degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and an MBA from the University of Dallas.

 


Craig von Peters is Director of Equity Capital Partnerships and leads our efforts in building & managing relationships with Wealth Management firms and Family Offices. He has over 30 years’ experience in alternative investments and institutional portfolio management. Prior to joining Silverado Interests, he led business development, recruiting and consulting for Affinity Investment Advisors, an Outsourced CIO practice serving RIA’s. Prior to Affinity, he spent 10 years in diverse business and product development roles across the Alternative Investment landscape. Including the launch of an Unconstrained fixed income fund with a former PIMCO team, spearheading a capital formation group in the Oil & Gas Exploration & Production sector, and with Keystone National Group, a prominent private credit firm.

 

Earlier in his career, he was a founding member of a New York based, boutique investment bank, where he managed relationships with over 200 private equity funds and corporate development groups. Before establishing his career in private equity, he spent 10 years managing institutional roadshows throughout the Middle East and Europe. He also served as managing director for an affiliate of Maria Fiorini Ramirez global consulting, a leading macro-economic advisory firm. His career in financial services began with Lehman Brothers in the Private Client Group.


Kyle Bainter is Director of Investor Relations and Treasury at Silverado Interests focused on strategic planning on company initiatives, new investment and development opportunities, and capital markets. Mr. Bainter has worked with the Silverado Interests team since 2013 both directly, and, through his role as Co-Founder & Board Member of one of Silverado Interests’ portfolio companies, Callbox Storage. Mr. Bainter has an extensive background in real estate including self-storage, industrial, senior care, retail, hotels, industrial, office and operating companies. He has served roles in underwriting real estate transactions, investor relations, and closings of real estate investments in the amount of approximately $1.8 billion. Prior to his roles with Silverado Interests and Callbox, he was at Lone Star Funds where he managed the fund reporting of several multi-billion-dollar funds including responsibility of the reporting from teams in the U.S., Belgium, Ireland, and Luxemburg. Mr. Bainter has been recognized as a finalist in Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year program. Mr. Bainter has served in roles on the Young Life Committee in his community, Junior Achievement,  and currently serves on the Finance Committee at Lakewood Country Club. Mr. Bainter received his undergraduate degree from ORU and a masters from the University of Texas at Austin. He is also a CPA.


Collins Thompson, who brings over ten years of commercial real estate experience, joined Silverado Interests in 2023 and serves as Director of Multifamily Acquisitions. In this capacity, he is responsible for originating, structuring, underwriting, and completing investment transactions as well as asset management throughout the hold period and dispositions. Prior to joining Silverado Interests, Mr. Thompson served as a Director on the Dallas Investment Sales team for Walker & Dunlop where he was responsible for all stages of the deal process including sourcing, underwriting, and closing of transactions on behalf of several clients in both the institutional and private spaces. While at Walker & Dunlop, Mr. Thompson was directly involved with investment sales transactions totaling to more than $3.0 billion. Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop, Mr. Thompson served as a Senior Analyst of Multifamily Investment Sales at JLL, where he was responsible for the underwriting and financial modeling of multifamily properties throughout Texas. During his tenure, Mr. Thompson was a member of a sales team that achieved over $3.2 billion in closed transactions and assisted with over $2 billion in dispositions. Mr. Thompson earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance from Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University, where he also served as a member of the Texas Tech Finance Association and Texas Tech Real Estate Organization. Mr. Thompson is currently an active member of The Real Estate Council (TREC) Young Guns and holds an active sales license in the State of Texas.


Mickey Wittum joined Silverado in 2019. Mickey is responsible for underwriting, asset management, and due diligence activities maximizing relationships and returns. Previously, Mr. Wittum served for four years as Finance Manager at a large senior housing developer, owner, and operator. During his time in senior housing, he helped raise over $100 million in debt for Senior Housing communities. He was primarily focused on underwriting ground-up development projects, budgeting for over 40 memory care, assisted living, and independent living communities, as well as communicating with investors and lenders. He also was responsible for negotiating and closing property transactions as well as construction loans, bridge loans, and permanent loans. He started his career with Honda Financial Corporation as an analyst. There he gained his modeling experience, as well as forecasting and budgeting. He also volunteers in the Dallas Parochial League as a basketball coach for Christ The King. Mr. Wittum holds an undergraduate degree from The University of Kansas.

 


Tommy Banh joined Silverado in 2023 as the Investment Operations Analyst. He is responsible for managing the day-to-day incoming funds, coordinating distribution of funds to investors, and tracking data and communication in IMS. Previously, Mr. Banh served in an accounting and internal audit role at both small start up companies to large financial institutions. He started his career in commercial real estate performing full-cycle day-to-day operations financial reporting for Stream Realty with a focus on industrial, retail, and office buildings. Pursuing a different career path, he branched into internal audit at ORIX Corporation performing internal controls testing, SOX compliance audits, treasury audits, and data analytics audits. From there, Mr. Banh returned to commercial real estate and expanded his experience into investment accounting at Medcore Partners with a focus on consolidation reporting and investor relations to ensure asset details are communicated efficiently. Additionally, he transitioned the company’s accounting system from Excel and QuickBooks into Yardi’s more robust database system. Mr. Banh received his undergraduate degree and master’s in accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas.


Lynn Kieffer is an Associate at Silverado Interests and manages the office. Previously, she worked at Medical Sleep Solutions as a Senior Marketing Representative where she helped develop customized market strategies which yielded 40% growth resulting in over 3.5 million in billing. She also worked for Petro-Hunt, LLC as an Executive Secretary for W. Herbert Hunt, Doug Hunt, and Gage Prichard, Sr. Manager.

 


Millie Matthews began her career in Public Accounting with Ernst & Young. She spent four years in the auditing service line, where she worked primarily on large publicly listed clients in the retail, airline and investment industries. She then spent one year as a Senior Investment Accountant with Goldman Sachs before moving to Madrid, Spain with her husband. While in Madrid, Millie studied the Spanish Language at Escuela Oficial de Idiomas, traveled Europe and began her family. Since returning from Spain, Millie has held various roles, from Financial Compliance Analyst with Texas Health Resources, to Professor of Accounting with Dallas County Community Colleges. Millie earned her Masters of Accounting from the University of Arkansas and is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the state of Texas. She enjoys reading, traveling, being outdoors and staying active with her husband, Luke, and two young children, Nora and Julian.

 


Maison Vasek is a founding partner of BVWD, LLP.  He is the firm’s partner in charge of consulting.  Prior to founding BVWD, he founded HMBL Consulting, and served as Chief Financial Officer of two middle-market companies.   Maison has significant experience in operational and technical accounting, FP&A, treasury management and process automation.  He started his career in public accounting and spent eight years with a Big 4 accounting firm and a Top 50 national accounting firm focused on audits of public and private companies.  Maison graduated from the University of Oklahoma with BS degrees in Finance and Accounting.  He lives in East Dallas with his wife and two daughters.
